[ Business]

Former Pinterest iOS engineer Sahil Lavingia has launched Gumroad. In essence, Gumroad is a payment company. But, as with all great ideas online, it takes something that you think you know about and makes it simple, different.

With Gumroad, you don’t spend time setting up an Internet “store”. You upload or link to an item you want to sell, get a Gumroad link for the item, then you start Tweeting, blogging, Facebooking that link. For people who don’t want to go through all the trouble of building a site and e-commerce structure for just a few items, but would like to try their hand at selling something they’ve written, designed, recorded or built, Gumroad could be a great alternative.

Gumroad takes the payments for you and deposits your money monthly into your bank account. What all can you sell? How much does it cost? What cards do they accept?

From the site’s FAQ:

“Most people use Gumroad to sell things that they’ve made. These include songs, albums, videos, photos, and other things. Even T-shirts! You can sell anything that you can upload or link to.

You can price a link for as little as $1, and as much as $1000. We also support pricing links in £, €, and ¥.

We support all major credit cards. That includes Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, JCB, and Diners Club cards.

We take 5% + $0.30 of each transaction. For example: If you sell a digital video for $10, we get $0.80 and $9.20 is deposited into your account.

There are no setup fees, no monthly fees, and no bandwidth fees.

A deposit [is made] to your linked account at the end of every month.”
