The Internet Movie Database (IMDB), a subsidiary of Amazon.com, said it has acquired Withoutabox, a provider of an online service for independent filmmakers and artists.

Withoutabox

Financial details of the acquisition were not released. Withoutabox provides an online site for independent filmmakers to manage their film distribution, submission of their films to film festivals and promotion of the films themselves.

Withoutabox was co-founded in 2000 by David Straus and Joe Neulight. The company will continue to function as a stand-alone operation based in the Los Angeles area.

"For eight years, Withoutabox has enabled filmmakers and festivals to reach the widest audience possible," said David Straus, CEO, Withoutabox. "Now, they will be able to connect directly with the 50 million film lovers who visit IMDb each month."
