Microsoft announced that it has completed the roll out of its new Hotmail experience. All customers have now been upgraded.

"The majority of you got the new Hotmail just this past week, as we completed the rollout to over 350 million people in more than 220 countries around the world," writes Microsoft’s Mike Schackwitz on the Windows Live blog. "Now, everyone can take advantage of a faster Hotmail experience with great new features like one-click filters, Sweep, Active Views and more."

Windows Live Hotmail - New version rolled out

The new hotmail comes with quite a few changes. These include:

- improved inbox clutter elimination
- Microsoft Smartscreen
- individual preference auto-learning
- False-positive reduction
- junk mail descriptors
- spammer infrastructure detection
- time traveling filters
- Hotmail highlights
- one-click filters
- quick views
- inbox search auto-complete
- conversation view
- sweep

All of these features are discussed in more detail here.

Back in early June, Microsoft announced the beginning of the roll-out. It’s taken a couple months, but it’s finally done.

In my work as a free-lance writer, I frequently need to send docs to my clients but not as attachments–as a copy/paste into the body of the email. NOW, it doesn’t work anymore. There are also some added functions when I open my email, I get several new little boxes (add to contacts, etc.) that I do not want!

ALSO, when I click on an email to open it, the page flips around in a slippery way. I find nothing good about your changes and, in fact, they are causing me serious problems. I have to send a doc to an important client today and I can’t copy paste my pdfs into the body of the message.

Any chance you can give me back the old version so I can do my work? Nothing about the changes you made are beneficial to me–instead, they’re causing me some serious problems.

I am having a hard time with this new version. I used the chat quite a bit, and now, not only can I NOT put the chat window where I want it (outside of the msn mail page), when someone sends a new message, it pops up to cover whatever I was working on. I used to be able to minimize it, and bring it up at will, but now I have no choice, the chat box as well as the msn hotmail page take over the screen when some one answers me. Sooooo not good. I am having to go to another chat because of the above.

Also, now one of my contacts comes up showing that I blocked them. I cannot im her, or her me. How do I unblock this person.

Unhappy with the changes, and looking for an alternative to MSN.

I am sooo confused by new format! It groups my emails into “Conversations” and I can’t reply to some emails involved with in!!! This is a disaster, and has made my work day utterly challenging!!!
Can someone from Windows come over and help me ?!!!!! :0

I too am struggling. I don’t want my emails organised into “conversations” – it’s not actually helpful. It was fine the way it was before! Some of my emails are disappearing + they’re not easy to find to re-read them as once I’ve replied, my name comes up in the sender box. Also attachments are being converted to web based browser versions! Not flexible to make changes, etc. I hate it and might have to change to another email supplier.

I’m not sure where they are coming from, but as soon as I got the new version everything started loading so much more slowly. And then occasionally when I sign in I get a message that my Firefox browser is outdated and I can not log into my e-mail. Yet if I close the browser and re-open it I am able to get in. Could this be a way to try to force people to switch to IE? I’d rather get rid of my Hotmail account (which for me is a secondary account) than switch to IE!

This is a disaster. I cannot open folders, messages or delete messages on two different computers. I have read some complaints from other users and I am sure that thousands of users are affected. Why isn’t this a publicized scandal? Is the press unaware?

I haven’t had any problems at all with the new Hotmail. In fact I like it so much that I’ve officially abandoned my Gmail account and switched to my formerly quiet Hotmail account as my main email address. And I don’t even use “@hotmail.com” anymore either – you have the option of using “@live.com” which is less tacky.

I think whats happening here is all the Google fanboys are coming out and showing their true colors. It really is a much better experience, but most of you people will never find out the truth because you’re blinded by your brand loyalty.
