  1. “a bit hypocritical”? Sorry, but my issue on your site isn’t so much the ads, but how much space they take. 500+ pixels before I can even see the headline. On a netbook, that’s not good at all.

No offense, but the #1 reason I spend very little time at this site is the fact that I have to scroll so much before I can read anything.

    From a usability perspective, it’s not good…

I don’t know if the balance is worth it to you – perhaps you’re getting some good change for all the ads, but… I can say this. You have several competing sites and I’m willing to bet if you changed a few things on your layout, you’d gain a significant amount of additional traffic.

Just my two cents. This, btw, is the first full article I’ve read on your site in a long time. My reason for clicking and closing is the adspace – and nothing else.

    • Hi Pamela,

It’s worth noting, as indicated in the article, that this is was originally posted on Michael’s blog, and he is referring to his own site (not WebProNews). We have a content syndication partnership in place with Michael, and felt that the article raised some interesting points worthy of discussion with our audience.

      • Good point, Chris. Michael’s site is at most “a bit” hypocritical. As opposed to this site, which is OVER THE TOP with ads. I count 16 ads, including the popover. I’m also not sure why you need 4 links to facebook either.

The article does raise some interesting points, but like Pamela, I find that the WPN site design makes them a bit hard to find!

  2. I do agree that WebProNews is a bit overloaded with ads, but if I’m honest I am so used to looking at adverts on website’s I don’t really pay attention to them (unless they are really intrusive).

But if I look back and inspect the page and really pay attention it is way over saturated, it is hard to really concentrate on one ad. The 125px ads do not stick out enough and just blend into one another. I think the only ones worth using are skyscrapers, banners and 300 x 250 and all in moderation
