Microsoft and Yahoo Marketing Issues

Microsoft is spending a lot of money creating useful tools for advertisers, and when you go to their tools page they list contextual ads for "all the data mining". If they would just let me know what that ad placement costs I am betting I would be willing to pay more than that thin arbitrage site pays. But I would pay much less than what it would be worth just to keep their tool pages clean so they can help build market adoption.

Models Stealing Quantum Notes Leads To Science!

A YouTube video featuring Australian models talking quantum physics turned out to have plagiarized Scott Aaronson’s lecture on "Quantum Computing Since Democritus," and he has reached a settlement over this usage.

Google Search Appliance Purchase Leads To Links

Want someone to take you seriously?  An effective (if inelegant) way of getting attention is to flash some cash.  That practice may also, as it turns out, get you a link from Google.

Writing For Leads Is Bad Business

Recently I re-read a business book (written by some PhD’s who counsel people to improve their careers), and each chapter struck me as salesy — as if it were primarily crafted to speak to the 1% of readers who might be likely to follow up as consulting prospects.

Virtual Sex Bed Caper Leads To Avatar Lawsuit

Just try to read this without feeling like you’re sitting in the back of the classroom, snickering with your buddies at the slightest hint of double entendre – you know, she said jacket, heh heh.

PeakStream Trail Leads To Google

Google’s acquisitions are usually pretty smooth deals; at most, a “welcome, Google!” statement shows up on the lucky company’s homepage.  Now, a report indicates that PeakStream has been bought by Google, yet the company no longer even has a front page – the whole site is gone.

MySpace Leads Copyright Infringement Fight
MySpace launched a new feature, called Take Down Stay Down, that prevents users from re-uploading videos that have already been taken down due to copyright infringement. It’s a smart thing, keeping the onus on the DMCA, but at the same time giving the DMCA more teeth, and it shows MySpace’s commitment to keeping infringing content off their site.

While looking for information on PPC management, I’ve found an interesting number of resources about improving conversions.

While many of these are focused on the PPC market, the organic SEO’s like myself ignore these at our peril.

Thought Leadership To Build Brands and Nurture Leads

RainToday.com’s recent report "What’s Working In Lead Generation" got me thinking about the relationship of thought leadership to branding and lead nurturing.

In B2B marketing, all three serve the same purpose: to establish your company as a trusted adviser, so when a prospect is ready to buy, he or she will think of you and will want to speak with your sales reps.

Drive Better Lead Generation ROI

A brief tale about tracking down a spammer, which also held the accused personal contact information, won Jerry Baker a defamation lawsuit. The case also illustrates the potential pitfalls of Internet research.

Live Blogging Leads Macworld Keynote Coverage

Coverage of the Steve Jobs keynote at the Macworld conference took on several different forms this year. Some publications took the traditional journalistic approach by writing articles after the fact, while others experimented with the less formal, more reactionary approach of blogging.
