  • Zooey Deschanel gave birth to her first child, a baby girl, recently and apparently she did it as a married woman. The New Girl star quietly married Jacob Pechenik back in June, and the couple have not released any details about the baby or their wedding. Now, fans are wondering whether Zooey will hang onto her famous last name now that she’s a newlywed.

Since it’s actually the second marriage for Deschanel–she married Death Cab For Cutie’s Ben Gibbard in 2009–it’s likely that she won’t be taking her husband’s last name, although the couple have not released a statement. Zooey not only has a successful show on Fox, she’s also one half of the group She & Him and is a clothing designer, so her well-known surname has become important for her brand.

Deschanel announced earlier this year that she was expecting, but said she didn’t want to know the gender of the baby until the birth.

“It’s more fun. Make it into a game!” Deschanel said.

According to the L.A. Times, the baby was born in Texas–where the couple married–late last month, and obviously Zooey and Jacob want as much privacy as possible now that they’re new parents. Deschanel said earlier this year that she won’t be the celebrity mom who does a photo shoot soon after giving birth, because she doesn’t want to pressure herself to look a certain way so soon after a major body change.

“Haven’t we all seen those pictures of a sexy new mom in a bikini after one month? I will not be that person. I’ve always gone my own course and never been someone who had the need to be super skinny. I like a healthy look. I don’t buy into that skinny-is-better mentality. I just eat healthy and work out and don’t worry about my weight too much. Actresses aren’t models, and most of them never wanted to be,” Zooey Deschanel said.
