  • Zooey Deschanel has revealed her daughter’s name, and it’s pretty much exactly what you’d expect from the New Girl star, who has made quite a career of being quirky and adorable.

Deschanel gave birth this summer in Texas without much fanfare, and did the same with her wedding to Jacob Pechenik in June. The couple recently revealed the baby girl’s name to People: Elsie Otter. Yes, “like the animal”, Zooey confirmed.

Zooey said during her pregnancy that she wouldn’t be one of those celebrities who shows up on a magazine cover weeks after giving birth rocking a bikini, saying she wanted to give her body time to heal despite the pressures of Hollywood to look perfect at all times.

“I’ve always gone my own course and never been someone who had the need to be super skinny. I like a healthy look. I don’t buy into that skinny-is-better mentality. I just eat healthy and work out and don’t worry about my weight too much,” Deschanel said.

While Deschanel and Pechenik haven’t revealed photos of the baby, her co-star Lamorne Morris says she is understandably cute, given who her parents are.

“She’s an extremely cute baby. She looks like Zooey. Two good-looking parents will make a good-looking kid. Unless there’s that one where you’re like, ‘Oh, you’re going to make a terrible child.’ But that was not gonna happen with these two,” Morris said.

Zooey Deschanel is taking some time off to be with her husband and new baby and won’t appear on the new season of New Girl; instead, Megan Fox will take over for a bit as Reagan, who sublets Jess’s room in the apartment while she’s off serving jury duty.
