  • Earlier this year, Yahoo launched its Mobile Developer Suite aimed at helping developers “understand, measure, advertise, monetize, and enhance” their apps. The suite came with five new products including: Flurry Analytics Explorer, Yahoo App Publishing, Yahoo App Marketing, Yahoo Search in Apps, and Flurry Pulse.

At a developer event on Wednesday, Yahoo announced some updates including new Tumblr in-app sharing, real-time metrics, and native video for publishers.

“Not only are consumers now spending 90% of their time on mobile in apps (up from Q1), but they’re using social, messaging and entertainment apps more than any other category (accounting for 51% of time on mobile). And as mobile app usage changes, so do developers’ needs,” a spokesperson for Yahoo tells WebProNews.

With Tumblr in-app sharing, developers can let users share their creations with their Tumblr followers. Developers can also see engagement on content shared, such as reblogs, clicks, or likes.

The real-time metrics are available in Flurry Analytics, updating every fifteen seconds.

With native video, Yahoo says developers can increase monetization with “an ad solution that combines native, the best performing ad format, with video, the best performing ad content.”

The day before the event, Yahoo hosted its first Mobile Hackathon around the suite, with over 200 hackers working from 9AM to6PM using Yahoo App Publishing, the Tumblr API, and Yahoo Search in-apps. The company will announce winners soon.

Yahoo also announced a new partnership with Girls Who Code, which will roll out to 500 clubs next month. Yahoo’s Tumblr and Flickr will host student project demos in the spring.
