  • The world’s tallest dog, known as Giant George, passed away last week, according to a Facebook post by his owners.

George’s owners, David and Christine Nasser, wrote the sad news on their Facebook page, “Greetings from the Rainbow Bridge”. “It is with a heavy heart that we announce Giant George died last night,” they wrote. “George passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones; one month before his eighth birthday.”

They continued their post by thanking all of George’s friends and family for their love and support. “We appreciate the love and support you have given Giant George over the last several years,” they wrote. “We look forward to honoring his spirit by continuing his charitable works. Your thoughts and prayers are much appreciated.

Giant George was verified as the World’s Tallest Dog by Guinness World Records on February 15, 2010. Despite being the runt of a litter of 13 puppies, George grew to an amazing size, reaching 7 foot from the tip of his nose to the end of his tail.

Jamie Panas, the Guinness spokesperson was in awe of George’s size. “He’s just the sweetest, kindest dog, and he doesn’t realize what all the hoopla is about,” she said. “I was completely awestruck. Working here, I meet different record holders of all unique sizes, and I was definitely taken aback by his size.”

George made his way to fame appearing on national television shows including “Oprah”, “Live with Regis and Kelly”, and “Good Morning America”.
