A 54-year-old woman has been charged with disturbing schools, breaching the peace, and unlawful use of a telephone after sending a text to her daughter claiming that shots had been fired at a Virginia College campus where she worked. It could go down as the dumbest April Fools’ joke of the year.

Police say that Angela Timmons, an employee of the private institution’s Spartanburg, South Carolina wing, messaged her daughter that she had heard shots inside the building. When the daughter tried to get in touch with her mother again and failed, she unsurprisingly called 911 to report the incident.

Authorities swarmed the location and found nothing.

Timmons admitted to police that it was just an April Fools’ joke, and that she’s always playing April Fools’ jokes like this–you know, like that makes it better.

    Mooooooooooom!

Virginia College operates branches in dozens of locations–mostly in the South. The branch involved in this terrible April Fools’ prank was opened in January of 2011.
