  • Microsoft is about to make Windows 11 a lot less irritating, with plans to cut back on its pushy push notifications.

Windows 11 may be Microsoft’s latest and greatest, but that doesn’t mean customers have warmed to it as much as previous iterations of the company’s flagship product. In fact, as of late 2022, Windows 11 adoption hovered around a paltry 15%.

According to TechRadar, Microsoft is finally addressing one of the operating system’s most irritating features: the flood of push notifications.

As the outlet points out, it’s possible to use Windows 11’s Focus Assist to cut down on the number of notifications, but it does virtually nothing to distinguish between useful notifications and annoying ones. As a result, it’s more of an all-or-nothing approach.

New preview builds are implementing a ‘smart opt-out’ feature that will ask users if they want to mute an app’s notifications if it’s an app they haven’t used in a while.

The new feature will no doubt be most welcome and make transitioning to Windows 11 a little less painful.
