  • Westboro Baptist Church is at it again. You may recall when they said they would picket Steve Jobs’ funeral.

Now it’s former Penn State football coach Joe Paterno’s. Paterno, of course, died this morning of lung cancer.

Westboro Baptist Church top member Margie J Phelps took to Twitter today to announce that they would be picketing Paterno’s funeral, and tweet plenty of unsavory words for Paterno and those mourning his death. Here they are:

Joe Paterno is dead. WBC will picket his funeral. He’s in hell.Don’t partake of your neighbor’s sin! @espn @bleacherreport #GodH8sPennRape 6 hours ago via web · powered by @socialditto

    No RIP Joe Paterno.No peace in hell! #WarnLiving #WBCWillPicketFuneral @pennlive @PatriotNews @psufootball @PN_Dustin @djoneshoop 6 hours ago via web · powered by @socialditto

Stop pimping out your kids to raping coaches @CollegeFootball! WBC must picket Paterno funeral. @SportsCenter @CFBONFOX @JayBilas @ESPNCFB 6 hours ago via web · powered by @socialditto

“Penn State Penn Rape” rings in Joe Paterno’s ears in hell.
He partook of sin for fame & fortune. Worth NOTHING to him now.

It pretty much goes on like that…

Obviously, WBC is drawing from Paterno’s role in the highly publicized Penn State scandal involving assistant coach Jerry Sandusky being arrested for having sex with children. Paterno was not charged with any crimes, though there was a great deal of outcry that he did not do more to keep the crimes from happening.

As expected, there is the usual backlash on Twitter to WBC’s plans. Plenty of people are calling them out as “crazies”.
