  • The FBI and NYPD are investigating a computer graphic warning of al-Qaeda’s impending return to New York City, that was recently posted on a radical overseas website that is linked to the terror organization. The image depicts the city skyline and reads: “Al Qaeda Coming Soon Again in New York.”

Paul Browne of the NYPD has stated that the graphic appeared on a site that had previously hosted al-Qaeda material, and described the site itself as falling under Category 1, which means it’s described by the NYPD Intelligence Division as being heavily used by Jihadi and al-Qaeda followers.

Browne added that the NYPD is attempting to figure out what individual or organization created the image, which is now being spread over numerous extremist pages. The image appears to have been created with Maxon Cinema 4 software, which runs for roughly $1600, or for free on any BitTorrent site on the net. The NYPD adds that they have found no specific plot or credible threat against the city, and points out that extremist websites often host threats and rants from al-Qaeda sympathizers.

The FBI is also investigating, and spokesperson J. Peter Donald states, “the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force is aware of the posting and investigating its authenticity and origin. The FBI takes all threats seriously and at his time there is no specific or credible threat to New York.”
