  • Legendary heavy metal band Pantera, which fell apart prior to the 2004 shooting death of guitarist Darrell Abbott, have a previously unreleased song, which they are creating a video for, and they’re looking to the web to find fans to appear in it.

A message posted to the band’s Facebook page says:

We are looking for footage of our fans rockin out & moshing to their favorite Pantera song… as hard as they can! The fans that shred the hardest will get their mugs featured in the upcoming NEW PANTERA video for PISS, which is their final UNRELEASED song. Headbang with your friends, climb the walls of your bedroom, skate around the parking lot where you hang out…however you listen to metal, do it for your iPhone, Android, Flipcam, Bloggie, etc and send it to us! You must be over 18 to participate.

Submit a video file of you moshing and raging to your favorite Pantera song. It should just be 1-2 min of your absolute favorite song right in front of the camera. Please make sure to state your name and age at the beginning of the video so we can match it with your e-mail.

Its pretty interesting to see, given that Facebook and YouTube, let alone iPhones and Android did not exist when Pantera existed. For those of us who grew up listening to the band, it’s hard to believe it’s been that long.

This sort of thing might be common place to today’s generation of music fans, but it remains interesting to see older musicians embrace the web in such ways. It’s not all Metallica suing Napster.

Here’s a 15-second snippet of the song, which was recorded with the band’s Vulgar Display of Power LP (if it’s any indication of the entire thing, I see why they left it off the album):
