  • Twitter has acquired the startup responsible for Squad, the app designed to help people hang out virtually.

In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, social media and platforms that help individuals stay connected have experienced explosive growth. Squad is a screen-sharing app designed to make it easy for people to hang out via smartphone.

In the meantime, Twitter has been looking for ways to increase engagement, making the Squad acquisition a natural fit for the platform’s goals. Ilya Brow, Twitter’s VP of product, announced the news in a tweet.

Squad has announced the acquisition on its website, as well as informed users it will shut down Saturday, December 12.
