  • After four years with the company, Tumblr president John Maloney has made the decision to step down from his post.

In a blog post titled “Tempus Fugit”–Latin for “time flies”–Maloney said that while he won’t be running day-to-day operations anymore, he still wants to stick close to his team as he makes time for his family and for supporting new startups.

“I told the team and board this week that it’s time for me to transition away from running day-to-day operations,” Maloney wrote. It’s the right time for me and a good time for Tumblr. We’re in great hands with David and the excellent leadership team we’ve built. The company is filled with amazing people. That said, I’m not going very far. The transition from running ops is effective immediately, but I’m sticking close w/ David, the team and company. There’s more work to do and I want to help see it thru.”

Tumblr has grown substantially over the years and has seen more and more businesses make use of their social network aspect, something they’ve embraced. A representative for the company said recently that they are “always actively looking for creative ways to help out brands on Tumblr.”

Maloney stressed in his blog post that the company will be in great hands with David Karp, his partner of eight years, and the leadership team they’ve built.
