Trooper David Kedra, a 26-year old member of the Pennsylvania State Police, was shot and killed during an annual training exercise on Tuesday.

Details are scarce, but according to WJAX, Kedra was shot when another trooper's firearm accidentally discharged. He was wounded in the chest and airlifted to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

"Preliminary evidence indicates that Trooper (David) Kedra was struck by a bullet accidentally discharged by another member of the Pennsylvania State Police. However, more specific information regarding the investigation will not be released at this time," Captain James Raykovitz said in a press release.

The shooting remains under investigation. Kedra had only been with the barracks since 2012, but was highly regarded by his peers.

"He was extremely proud to be a Pennsylvania state trooper and he showed it. He wanted to see everything, he wanted to be a part of everything, he wanted to learn everything and those kind of qualities make an outstanding patrol trooper," said Trooper Derik Frymire.

Police barracks from surrounding counties and states have offered their condolences on social media.
