  • Tori Spelling recently spoke about having to make some hard decisions regarding finances, saying that after years of not having to worry about money, a set of circumstances led to sudden money troubles.

“We’re in the entertainment business, and things change year to year,” she said. “We don’t have a series on the air right now, so we have to be more restrictive of what we can spend, just like anyone who doesn’t currently have a steady job.”

After spending several weeks in the hospital after the birth of her fourth child and then having her reality show canceled, Spelling says she had to learn how to budget a little differently and make things last, especially for her kids.

“I haven’t bought a purse in three years, and it’s fine,” she said. “I look back at that girl who shopped at Gucci in my 20s, and I can’t even relate. I can’t believe I thought it was important.”

The hardest part came when she considered asking her mom, Candy Spelling, for help.

“That was really hard,” she said. “It was difficult at the time to go to her and say, ‘Can I have help with this?’ And I told the story because halfway through I was like, ‘You know what, Mom, I just want to have lunch with you, forget it, I’m gonna do it myself, and I did.”

The two of them have had a notoriously fiery relationship over the years, particularly after Tori’s dad, TV mogul Aaron Spelling, died in 2006 and left most of his estate to Candy. However, things appear to be running more smoothly between mom and daughter, and Tori says she admits she made some bad choices in the past.

“I was saying I’ve made bad choices, just because I’m an actor, just because I’m on TV doesn’t mean that I don’t make financial choices that aren’t good.”

Spelling has been the subject of rumors this week regarding a sex tape she and husband Dean McDermott allegedly put out. However, Spelling says that the story got out because of something in her new memoir, “Spelling It Like It Is”, in which she talks about a former friend stealing things from the family’s computer.

“I’m basically telling a story about the friend that kind of surprised us—we thought they were a friend—and they went and took some personal things off our computer,” she said. “I call it a ‘sex tape’ because my husband and I did have that moment where we filmed an intimate thing. I don’t know, it’s not a “sex tape.” What’s more hurtful is that I’ve read that I’m entertaining these offers. They can write whatever they want, but when it starts to interfere—because I’m a mom, that’s taking it too far. I wrote one little thing in a book, but saying that I’m entertaining offers and that I would ever put that out there for the public…it’s false.”
