  • In a Q&A posted on AMC’s The Walking Dead blog, show runner Glen Mazzara dropped a few tidbits about the upcoming season of the hit television show, and from the sound of it, zombies may just be the least of the cast’s concerns.

Anyone who has read the comics/graphic novel upon which this portion of the show is based, knows exactly what he’s talking about, and it starts with a character that goes by the name of The Governor. If the show manages to keep in line with the books, than he will indeed be quite scary.

“The number one rule is not so much keeping the zombies scary, it’s keeping the show scary,” said Mazzara in the Q&A. “[The zombies] are always a horror but as our folks learn to live with them, the new horror becomes what people will do to survive and to protect each other in this world. And what they’re willing to sacrifice to achieve their ambition.”

“So it’s very much a human drama, and I think these new characters, particularly The Governor, certainly do play into that,” he adds.

For those who have not read the comics, I won’t spoil anything by revealing any further details about The Governor, or the plot line centered around him, but as fans know, the show doesn’t always walk a parallel line to the comics anyway, so there may be plenty of surprises in store for all of us.

Suffice it to say, the tension shouldn’t be easing up anytime soon.

David Morrissey (pictured) will play the character of The Governor. He looks more like Johnny from Night Of The Living Dead than the comics’ portrayal of The Governor in the picture above, but the Walking Dead crew has given fans little reason to doubt the quality of the upcoming season.
