The Goonies 2: Fans Want Original Cast Back

  • Rumors have been circulating the internet as to what form The Goonies 2 will take now that the sequel appears to be confirmed. All the details are being kept quiet, which only fuels the speculation. The buzzing question remains: how much of the original cast will return?

If they do return, CinemaBlend ran a list of potential story-lines. Will the main characters be the children of the original characters? Will the sequel be rated R with the original characters growing up “to become assholes”? Or will there be robots?

Or will the movie follow the plot of the original The Goonies II, an NES game from 1987? According to Kotaku, “The Goonies II didn’t just have kids, dungeons and evil Italian-Americans. It had dragons. Ghost Knights. Fish-men. Eskimos. Giant snakes. Wizards. Teleportation. And a bonus, all-new member of the Fratelli family, Pipsqueak, a cousin of the first film’s hapless brothers.”

With all the speculation, TMZ tracked down director Richard Donner to see if he had any light on the matter:

Donner told TMZ “Hopefully we’re going to get this done, period. Spielberg came up with the idea of doing a sequel after 30 years. You don’t do [‘The Goonies 2’] without him, and he came up with another storyline and he’s right on.” The news caused Goonies fans of Twitter to circulate rumors nonstop, to the point of annoying some of the original cast:

Feldman also recently said that he is dubious a sequel will happen. In an interview with TV Guide, Goonies cast member Sean Astin said “It will happen. I’m 1000 percent certain there will be a sequel. I will bet my children on it.” Feldman then replied “Oh my God. I am betting no child on this matter.”

Although cast members like Feldman may be less enthusiastic, Metro Writer Susie McBeth summed up what fans are clamoring for: the return of the original team. To those who cannot wait, check out the retro footage of the “original” Goonies 2:
