  • The Breakfast Club was released 30 years ago! Can you believe it?

The movie that follows a day in high school dentention in the early 80’s is a cult favorite and one that anyone can find a character to relate to.

That is a rare quality, and The Breakfast Club is king of that quality.

Teen angst in the 80’s is not quite what it is today, but that fact is lost on a person when they watch this movie whether it’s for the first time or the 30th.

    It’s universal.

That particular quality is what Molly Ringwald, and surely the rest of the cast, treasures about The Breakfast Club.

She went on Today to discuss the movie and its significance, then and now, with anchor and huge Breakfast Club fan, Savannah Guthrie.

She said, “I always loved the script, loved the movie, but I never imagined we would be talking about it 30 years later. I never imagined it would still speak to my kids. … I feel like it keeps speaking to generation after generation.”

Molly Ringwald recently watched The Breakfast Club with her 11-year-old daughter.

She said, “I showed her Sixteen Candles and Pretty In Pink, but I realized I was holding out on that one because I realized it had a lot of significance for me.”

Molly Ringwald said that if she could go back to The Breakfast Club dentention hall, there are a couple of things that she’d get her hands on.

“I would love to have those boots now,” Ringwald said of character Claire’s still-fashionable brown boots. “The boots and the statue!”

Where would one put that statue from The Breakfast Club?

I guess you would just make room. I mean, it’s the Breakfast Club statue!

What do you think about The Breakfast Club turning 30? Do you feel old now?
