  • A movie-goer who wouldn’t put his phone away was fatally shot inside a Florida movie theater on Monday afternoon, authorities say.

The incident occurred at a screening of “Lone Survivor” at the Cobb CineBistro at Grove 16 in Pasco County. Investigators say the shooting came after an altercation between two couples when a man began making noise during the movie and wouldn’t silence his phone.

“The victim was on his cell phone, he was texting. We believe he was making some kind of noise. This noise led to an altercation between the suspect and the victim,” Sheriff Chris Nocco said.

The man sitting behind him became agitated and eventually pulled out a gun and shot the texter and his wife. The man who had been texting was killed; his wife reportedly suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The story is making rounds across the web today, as both locals and people across the country worry about the safety of theaters now that several gun incidents have occurred since James Holmes opened fire inside a complex in Colorado and killed 12 people, wounding dozens more.

“When you hear there’s a shooting at a movie theater, the first thing you think is the worst. But I can tell our citizens this is an isolated incident. These are two people that fate just brought them together today,” Sheriff Nocco said. “It’s absolutely crazy it would rise to this level over somebody just texting in a movie theater.”
