Survey: Email, Intranets Top Employer, Employee Communication

The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Research Foundation and Xerox’s Buck Consultants have released findings from a survey looking at employer-employee communication.

Among the findings are that the most common communication vehicles organizations use to engage employees and foster productivity are email and intranets, 83% and 75% respectively. In addition, half of employers are communicating through Facebook, IM, and Twitter.

WordPress Introduces Post By Voice

Wordpress has just introduced a new feature that lets you update your blog by calling a phone number speaking. Wordpress users can go to the My Blogs tab, enable "Post by Voice" and get a special phone number to call for their blogs.

Calling the number and recording a message will post an audio file to the blog, which can then be published to Facebook, Twitter, etc. with the Publicize feature.

Google Wants Your Grandma to Use Video Chat in Gmail

Google has posted a video and an accompanying, printable guide for grandmothers to understand how to use Gmail’s video chat feature.

Google wants you to be able to easily show your grandparents how to use Gmail video chat, because let’s face it: a lot of grandparents aren’t hip to all of the latest web trends (if you are a grandparent that is hip to them, than good for you!).

Yahoo Mail for iPhone Gets an Upgrade

Yahoo has upgraded its HTML5 mobile web mail experience for the iPhone and iPod Touch, with a faster and more feature-rich version. It’s available as an opt-in trial, and has many of the same features as the desktop version.

Respond to Facebook Comments From Your Email

Today Facebook launched a feature that some would consider long overdue. They now let you reply to comments via email. In other words, when you get an email notification alerting you that someone has left a comment on one of your status updates, you can simply type your reply in the email and hit send, rather than having to leave your inbox, go to Facebook and respond there.
