  • StumbleUpon revealed a new app today for Windows 8 tablets and PCs.

Users can jump into the app from the Windows 8 Start screen from the live tile or app tile. Users can also pick from a grid of thumbnails, then tap or click on the Stumble button to start stumbling.

The app lets users take advantage of the entire screen while stumbling. “The app commands recede as users Stumble, providing optimal views of every page without any chrome getting in the way,” the company says.

Users can view recommended stumbles from the StumbleUpon live tile before actually launching the app. This, StumbleUpon says, lets users stay connected to StumbleUpon no matter what else they’re doing on their device.

StumbleUpon takes full advantage of the Windows 8 charm functions. “With the Share charm, users can share their Stumbles and Likes with any of their favorite Share-enabled Windows 8 apps, including StumbleUpon,” the company says. “Users can also explore topics outside of the Interests they follow by using the Search charm, which supports 500+ different keywords and Interests.”

With Snap View, the app can be used alongside other apps.

Of course, the app will also let users stumble through trending stumbles and their friends’ activity, just like on the desktop.

“The dynamic, visually-rich interface and interaction model of the Windows 8 operating system are a natural fit with StumbleUpon, which aims to bring surprise and fun to the experience of finding great stuff on the web,” said Cody Simms, Vice President, Product at StumbleUpon. “Microsoft Corp. has created an environment that enables the user to enjoy all of the amazing content that the Web has to offer and we are excited to be a part of this.”

“StumbleUpon is a great addition to the Windows 8 Store,” said John Richards, senior director of Windows App Marketing for Microsoft. “We’re excited that the app gives Windows 8 users the opportunity to discover great content and share it from anywhere.”

Earlier this week, StumbleUpon launched its recent desktop redesign out of beta. Last month, the company launched a new iOS experience. It stands to reason that a major Android update will be on the way soon. When the company launched the new iOS app, Simms told us they were trying to capitalize on the consumer attention being paid to the iPhone 5 and iOS 6. This week, Windows 8 is launching, so it makes sense that they would employ a similar strategy with that.

While StumbleUpon has not revealed any news about a forthcoming Android update, Google is having an event next week, in which it is a new phone and tablet are expected to be revealed.

The new Windows 8 app is available in the Windows Store.
