Athletes showed off Stella McCartney’s sportswear that she designed for the British Olympic team yesterday The models strutted their stuff on a catwalk at the Tower of London.

McCartney is the daughter of Beatles singer Paul. She thinks the Union Flag or Union Jack is “one of the most beautiful flags in the world” and that is why she decided to use it throughout the line.

More than 30 prospective members for Great Britain’s Olympic Team modeled the “red, white and blue Adidas kit in the British capital, which hosts the Olympic Games from July 27 to August 12.”

Many athletes believe that wearing uniforms that boast the colors of the Union Jack will give them a psychological edge and say that they love what Stella has done with the design.

Phillips Idowu is hoping to compete for Olympic gold as a triple jumper and said that the uniforms would help the team gain attention: “All eyes will be watching London 2012 so every little detail matters.” He also added that “looking good is psychologically important, but my sprint suit is also technically advanced.

McCartney discussed her intentions behind the design, “It was important for me to stay true to that iconic design but also to modernise it and present it in a contemporary way.”

The esteemed designer is 40 years old and collaborated with a German sportswear maker on the kit for over two years.

Other athletes were not as impressed as Idowu, Triple Olympic track cycling champion Bradley Wiggins tweeted, “Oh dear, the Olympic kit!! People reacted to his comment that was swiftly deleted and tweeted:
