“South Park” & Honey Boo Boo: Shows Collide

  • “South Park” creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker have never been shy about lampooning figures in pop culture; in fact, it’s what makes the show so popular and part of what has kept it a hit for the past fifteen years.

If you’ve ever seen what happens behind the scenes at the South Park studios, you know that the guys and their team of writers sit in a room and throw ideas around until one sticks, then expand upon it using a dry erase board until they get it right. The themes often sprout from what’s going on in the news, an experience one of them had, or a trending topic similar to what one can find on the Twitter sidebar. And no one has been more on trend lately than Honey Boo Boo.

It was only a matter of time, really, before the guys grabbed hold of the Thompson family and did their thing. Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson and her mother, sisters, father, and pet pig have taken the nation by storm over the past month or so after landing a reality show on TLC, garnering praise from some for being “real” and condemnation from others for allowing themselves to be taken advantage of by a network that is clearly making fun of them.

The episode doesn’t air until tonight, but considering what we’ve seen of the Thompson family so far–farting, an obsession with cheese balls, Mt. Dew chugging, and a baby with two thumbs–Matt and Trey probably held nothing back with their portrayals. You can watch a small preview below.
