  • A six-foot lizard is on the loose somewhere within the wilds of Colorado, according to authorities. The 25-pound Nile monitor lizard somehow managed to escape its enclosure in Teller County, prompting officials to issue a warning to those with small children and outdoor pets. Apparently these creatures can get a little testy from time-to-time, which means you probably don’t want to grab the beast should it wander into your homestead.

“It’s a large reptile, at least 25 pounds, and it can be aggressive. We want the people in those areas to know so they could keep on eye on their pets and small children,” explained Teller County Sheriff Mike Ensinger.

Here’s the good news: The lizard’s owner, who wishes to remain anonymous should this thing stumble into a radioactive dumping site and grow to astronomical proportions, says that while Dino (no joke) may look dangerous, he’s actually a very gentle little guy. In fact, he’s so laid back and nonchalant about life in general that he probably won’t eat anything bigger than a prairie dog. If that was designed to make me feel better about the creature being on the loose, then he failed miserably in his quest to soothe my nerves. And I don’t even live in Colorado.

Dino has been on the run since Tuesday (July 17), so he could be anywhere at this point. Should you or someone you love stumble across the missing lizard, contact the Sheriff’s Department immediately. Again, do not try to apprehend the little guy yourself. Anyone who’s seen at least one SyFy original motion picture will tell you that this is an incredibly bad idea. Whoever said you couldn’t learn life lessons from low-budget monster movies apparently hadn’t anticipated this.
