  • Simon Cowell probably received the best Valentine’s Day gift he’s ever had! He officially became a first-time father! On Friday, Feb. 14, at exactly 5:45pm, the X-Factor host’s girlfriend Lauren Silverman gave birth to a baby boy in New York City.

According to Hollywood Reporter, the baby, who weighed in at 6 lbs., 7 oz, was named Eric after Cowell’s father.

The elated talent competition judge took to Twitter to share the news with his 9.41M followers.

He offered a series of tweets announcing the birth of the child. He also gave a brief updating saying that both Silverman and the baby were doing fine.

His heartwarming tweets definitely gave fans a glint of his softer side, as opposed to his famously dour demeanor often shown on television. However, it’s not the first time he’s revealed his feelings.

Back in September, Cowell shared his sentiments about becoming a father. He even admitted that he was “excited” about the fast-approaching new chapter in his life.

“I am good with kids, because I like kids,” Cowell said during an interview with BBC One’s Breakfast morning show. “I really do like them, and I listen to them.”

Cowell was also asked how he reacted to receiving the news of becoming a father. He did admit that the news took time to sink in, but once it did he was very excited.  “Once I got used to it, I did get excited. … I think I will be a good dad, so I’m excited now.”

However, he’s made it clear that any form of diaper duty will be out of the question. The 54-year-old A&R executive just didn’t sign up for that part of the domesticated role!

“I’m not doing that. I wouldn’t do that — 100 percent absolutely not going near that,” he said.

The news of the baby’s birth comes just one week after Fox and Sony Music Entertainment announced the cancellation of the Cowell’s American version of X-Factor. The show, which premiered on Sept. 21, 2011, ran for three seasons with 80 episodes. Although the show received exceptional ratings during its first season, it suffered a gradual decline in viewership over the second and third seasons due to the substantial competition with NBC’s The Voice.
