  • In news that should not be a shock to most people, the Showtime network has renewed both Shameless and House Of Lies. Both shows air on Sunday night, and have dedicated fans who continue to buzz about them.

Showtime is not always recognized for its quality of television by the Emmy Awards or The Golden Globes, but it does tend to have some of the most popular shows, in terms of the fans who watch them.

Dexter and Weeds were both huge when they aired, while Nurse Jackie continues to give Edie Falco award nominations. Nurse Jackie will begin its 6th season in April, joined by Californication, which will be ending this year with its seventh, and final season.

Showtime made the announcement today that Shameless and House Of Lies would both be returning in 2015, and will enter their fifth and fourth seasons in the upcoming year, respectively.

The two powerhouse Sunday night shows will join Matt Leblanc’s Episodes, which has already been renewed for a fourth season. Leblanc has continually been nominated for awards for essentially playing himself in the 30-minute comedy series.

Shameless is based on a British series of the same name, and follows a poor family living in Chicago, chronicling the struggles that each of them face while growing up. The kids are forced to raise each other due to their absent mother, and constantly drunk father, who is played by William H. Macy. The show stars Emmy Rossum as the legal guardian, and eldest sibling in the family.

The show is averaging 5.5 million viewers across multiple platforms, and is currently in its highest-rated season yet. Shameless’ ratings are up 8 percent vs. its third season and up 22 percent vs. season two. Its highest-rated episode of the season came on Jan. 26 when it drew 1.83 million viewers at 9 p.m.

House Of Lies is a newer show that features two Hollywood stars in Don Cheadle and Kristen Bell. The 30-minute comedy follows a group of misfit consultants who are constantly bickering with each other as they attempt to get their next client.

It is one of the only Showtime shows to gain attention at award shows recently, while being nominated as a show, and for Don Cheadle’s work. Don Cheadle has been nominated for two Golden Globes and two Emmy Awards for his role as Marty Kaan, winning the Golden Globe in 2012.

Shameless and House Of Lies continue to draw the viewers in on Sunday night, allowing Showtime to compete with the other pay networks such as HBO and Netflix, which both boast impressive subscriber counts.
