  • Facebook COO and Lean In author Sheryl Sandberg has refuted claims that she is planning to run for the U.S. Senate in 2016.

Back in March, the U.K.’s Daily Mail published an “exclusive” report claiming that Sandberg was planning on running for Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer’s (CA) seat in two years. They quoted a source in Sandberg’s “inner circle” who said that the recent billionaire wouldn’t even miss the measly 30 to 40 million dollars required to compete for the California seat.

The report didn’t sound that ludicrous, as Sandberg has quickly vaulted into the ranks of most powerful businesspeople in the country. She’s not only wealthy and popular, but her Lean In movement has galvanized a coalition of go-getters that includes both women and men.

She’s also familiar with Washington, as she served as Chief of Staff to U.S. Treasury Secretary Larry Summers under President Bill Clinton.

But according to Sandberg herself, it’s all untrue.

“I’m not running for office. Again, I really love my job, and I have no plans to make any changes…I have ruled it out. I don’t think that’s for me, but I do really believe in what I’m doing,” said Sandberg on the TODAY show.

“I love my job. I love what we do every day to connect the world. And I love being able to work on lean in in my personal time,” said Sandberg when asked about Facebook.

There you go. Either Sandberg really isn’t thinking about the Senate or she’s honing the biggest skill she’ll need in Washington.
