  • Selena Gomez is just like any other young adult. She’s still trying to figure it all out.

Since the former Wizards of Waverly Place star traded her Disney innocence for a more provocative adult image, she’s definitely turned lots of heads this year.

Then, of course, her highly publicized relationship with Justin Bieber opened the door for more media scrutiny. There have been times when the 22-year-old singer’s behavior has reportedly been just as bad as her on-again, off-again boyfriend’s. However, her recent interview with Ellen DeGeneres may suggest otherwise.

When asked to rate her level of self-improvement on a scale of one to ten, she gave an honest answer. The When the Sun Goes Down singer admitted she’s a work in progress, learning more about herself each day.

“I’m a seven,” she said of her progress and transition into adulthood over the past year.

“People tend to forget. They’re like, ‘Be yourself, be yourself,’ and I’m still trying to figure out who that is. I know I’m not perfect but I know that I have a lot of people who support me and love me and, I don’t know, I don’t want to let anyone down. So I just try to be the best I can be.”

She went on to discuss how her life has changed over the past two years. The “Come & Get It” singer recently revealed she moved out of her parents’ home. She joked about the perks of living on her own. “I can like, walk around naked and stuff,” she quipped.

Although she’s happy to have her privacy, she’s enjoying the freedom that comes with adulthood even more.

“Honestly, I just enjoy not being able to have to check in all the time. My mom is the sweetest ever, so even now she checks in on me. She’s like, ‘I see online you’re here. Are you OK?’ And I’m like, ‘I’m fine, mom, I promise!’ But I think that’s just the best thing, being able to go into my own space.”
