  • Savannah Guthrie had the distinct pleasure of interviewing the almost-18-year-old McCaughey septuplets this past week on The Today Show, as part of the show’s “Where Are They Now?” series. Kenny Jr., Alexis, Natalie, Kelsey, Nathan, Brandon, and Joel McCaughey will turn 18 in November, and are the world’s only surviving set of septuplets.

Mom Bobbi McCaughey reminisced to Savannah Guthrie about the years of raising eight children–she and hubby Kenny McCaughey also have a daughter named Mikayla, who is one year older than the septuplets–and how quickly they have passed.

“They have flown by,” an emotional Bobbi told Savannah Guthrie. “Just because there’s been so many things that have happened. The memories, the joy, the heartaches that happened. It’s what has guided us to where we are today, and it’s very special.”

From the time of their birth through age 14, the McCaughey septuplets appeared on a Dateline special each year. Savannah Guthrie asked Bobbi and Kenny McCaughey why they stopped doing Dateline.

“I really want us to be as normal of a family as we can be,” Kenny said. “That’s the best way to raise a family is just the normal, everyday things.”

Guthrie has experienced a taste of what he talked about. She recently celebrated the first birthday of her little girl, Vale.

Savannah Guthrie asked the septuplets what they deem the best part of being one of so many siblings.

“You’re never alone,” Kenny Jr. said. “There’s always someone to talk to and hang out with. That’s what I think is the best.”

“I don’t think there’s a worst part,” Kelsey said. “I’ve enjoyed all of it.”

It’s hard to believe the McCaughey septuplets are almost 18 years old. Savannah Guthrie’s interview showed the world that they have grown up in a humble family with strong values, and that despite their sort-of departure from the limelight, all is well in their worlds.
