Savannah Brinson and LeBron James married over the weekend in a ceremony shrouded in secrecy and flanked by security guards, and that’s just how they wanted it.

The couple were high school sweethearts and have two children together, but have been relatively quiet regarding their relationship and nuptials. James said last year–after proposing in Miami Beach–that he would do whatever it took to make his bride-to-be happy and ensure “that Savannah gets whatever she wants on her day, the wedding day she always dreamed of.”

The guest list was also kept secret, with tents and umbrellas set up at the San Diego location the couple chose for their big day to provide cover from passing helicopters and photographers. Guests reportedly had their cell phones taken away so that no photos could be leaked to the press and were asked not to speak about the ceremony until the couple had time to release information their way, but one guest–speaking with anonymity–said the event was a huge success.

“A first-class affair,” said the guest. “Ceremony was short and sweet.”

The couple admitted to being in no rush for the wedding day after the proposal due to James’ hectic basketball schedule; he helped lead the American team to a gold medal in the London Olympics last year.
