  • Sarah Palin thinks that she made Tina Fey’s career.

Back in 2008, after John McCain’s ill-advised selection of Sarah Palin as his running mate in that year’s presidential election, the press had a field day with Palin.

She was an easy target, and the joke’s practically wrote themselves. When she appeared in traditional media outlets, as all other candidates had done, she came off as woefully unprepared. She famously could not tell Katie Couric what newspapers she regularly read to keep her informed. Later, she and her running mate accused that Couric softball question of being a sterling example of “gotcha journalism”.

Palin winked and clichéd her way through a debate opposite now-Vice President Joe Biden. The parodies of that went on for months.

When asked by Charlie Rose about her thoughts on the “Bush Doctrine” of preemptive military involvement in the Middle East, Palin did not know what the “Such Doctrine” was and gave a bristly response.

But it was the lampooning of Palin by Tina Fey on Saturday Night Live that put a nail in the coffin of Palin’s political aspirations, and McCain’s campaign. And all Fey did was use mostly Palin’s own words from Couric interviews. It was ridiculous enough on its own.

This “emperor’s new clothes” approach — simply pointing out the obvious fact that Palin was too ignorant to be VP — was comedy gold for Tina Fey. Eventually, she even got John McCain himself involved.

Now Sarah Palin is whining that Fey’s treatment of her had little to do with her losses. And she doesn’t think their SNL‘s commentary is relevant in today’s political climate.

“I think SNL is egotistical if they believe that it was truly an effect on maybe the public debate about who should lead the country in the next four years,” she said.

In fact, Palin thinks Fey owes her for all the money she made off playing her on SNL.

“If I ran into Tina Fey again today, I would say: ‘You need to at least pay for my kids’ braces or something from all the money that you made off of pretending that you’re me! My goodness, you capitalized on that! Can’t you contribute a little bit? Jeez!” Palin said.

Fey’s partner in crime, Amy Poehler, did a bang-up job of lampooning Hillary Clinton, as well. Burt no one from the Hillary camp is calling for money from Poehler.
