Sarah Palin To Immigrants Who Want To Stay In US: ‘Speak American’

  • Sarah Palin urged people of the United States including immigrants to “speak American.”

Palin made the comment after presidential candidate Donald Trump criticized his rival Jeb Bush for speaking Spanish.

“It’s a benefit of Jeb Bush to be able to be so fluent in Spanish, because we have a large and wonderful Hispanic population that is helping to build America,” Palin told CNN.

Although she praised Bush for being fluent in Spanish, the former Republican vice presidential candidate would like it better if people “speak American.”

“On the other hand, you know, I think we can send a message and say: ‘You want to be in America? A, you better be here legally, or you’re out of here. B, when you’re here, let’s speak American.’ I mean, that’s just, that’s – let’s speak English,” Palin said. She firmly believes that what unites the nation is the “language understood by all.” The issue started when Donald Trump openly criticized Bush for replying to a question in Spanish but, Bush defended himself saying the question was said in Spanish. Bush promised to keep speaking Spanish despite Trump’s proposition that people should only speak English in the US.

Palin said she, too, had learned Spanish and French in high school but she joked she got them all mixed up by the time she was graduating.

Meanwhile, Palin defended the Republican Party after South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley noticed that the Republicans appear “cold and unwelcoming to minorities.” Palin explained that it is not true because one of the party’s goals is to accept people’s differences and their views.

If Trump wins in the upcoming Presidential elections, Palin said she likes to be energy secretary. She told CNN that if she were appointed to serve as energy secretary, she would totally eradicate the said position.
