  • Sara Evans says she can’t quite believe her upcoming project is actually happening, and for good reason; she’ll get to duet with the legendary Doobie Brothers on an update of their song “What A Fool Believes”.

The duet will be part of a new album by the iconic band, which they’ll record with former member Michael McDonald and several other country artists, including Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, Zac Brown Band, Chris Young, Jerrod Niemann and Love and Theft.

“Some people we hoped would do it at first weren’t available,” McDonald said. “Not that anyone was our second choice. In fact, in many cases, who wound up being available, and who wound up doing it, in the end will come to be the best choice of all.”

McDonald went on to a successful solo career after his time with the band, and many believed there was bad blood between the members. However, he insists that’s not true and was happy to get back into the studio with them.

“That was a lot of fun, to just be hanging in the studio,” McDonald said. “It’s like old times…We’ve all come away from the thing feeling much more of a camaraderie than anything. I could never be grateful enough to the Doobies for the opportunities the organization gave me over the years.”

Evans says it didn’t take long for her to decide she wanted to be a part of the album, which doesn’t have a title just yet.

“I’m pinching myself. Is this really happening? I can’t wait to hear it. I haven’t heard it yet,” she said of the song. “Sometimes I’ll think things through before I answer questions or requests like that, but I immediately wrote back, ‘Yes, of course. I love the Doobie Brothers!'”
