Sandra Lee, the celebrity chef known for her 'semi-homemade' concept, underwent a double mastectomy on Tuesday. Boyfriend, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, released a statement about her surgery later in the day.
"Around 8 a.m. this morning, Sandy underwent surgery that concluded just before 1 p.m. I am happy to report that she is doing as well as can be expected and has begun the post-surgery recovery process," he said. "On behalf of Sandy and myself, I want to thank everyone for their kind thoughts and prayers over the last few days. Your support has meant the world to us."
It was only a few weeks ago that Sandra Lee announced she had breast cancer. She was scheduled for surgery earlier, but due to a respiratory infection it was rescheduled for this week instead.
The Food Network star made sure her team kept fans informed of her hospitalization, which they did via Facebook.
Sandra Lee prefaced their posts with one of her own on Monday.
On Tuesday morning the team began sharing information.
As they awaited another update, the team shared some of what Sandra Lee went through just prior to her surgery.
There was no doubt much rejoicing when they learned she was out of surgery.
And soon her team posted that Sandra Lee was 'resting comfortably.'
Sandra Lee certainly has several days of discomfort ahead, but hopefully the worst is over. The determination and drive she is known for will certainly prove itself invaluable during this trial.
