Salma Hayek was more than happy to be the lucky recipient of the Decade of Hotness award at Sunday night’s Guys Choice Awards.
In fact, Salma Hayek seems to be grateful for any acknowledgement of her hotness now that she's over 40.
But, in the beginning, after her first movie, Desperado, Salma Hayek was worried that she wasn't good enough. Can you imagine?
Salma Hayek told Entertainment Weekly after the awards ceremony, “I remember the first time, when I did Desperado, my English was worse than now and I read the reviews that ‘Salma Hayek was a bombshell.’ And to me, this means that I was terrible, that I had bombed!”
She added, “You think about it, that’s what it sounds like! Everyone told me, ‘No, no, it means you’re great, that you’re sexy!’ And [I was like], ‘That’s it? They didn’t talk about my acting?!’”
That problem has caused Salma Hayek to become a rather outspoken Hollywood feminist in the wake of gender discrimination awareness in the film and TV industry.
However, Salma Hayek is very grateful for the boost to her aging ego.
Salma Hayek said, laughing, “Let me tell you, as the years go by, the ‘hotness’ acknowledgment becomes more and more precious to a woman.”
She added, “When you start you’re like, ‘No, I want them to see me for my talent, and know me as an actress!’… Now, if they want to give me a Decade of Hotness [award], I’m like, ‘Bring it on!’ You really like to be [called] ‘hot’ after you’re 40.”
Do you agree with Salma Hayek's acceptance of "hot" compliments?
