  • The beloved internet series that captivated the minds of the new viral generation has returned after nearly 4 years. To the joy of many, myself firmly included – Salad Fingers is back.

Salad Fingers is the creation of British cartoonist David Firth. The first episode, entitled Spoons was released in 2004 and went viral soon after. The second episode, called Friends is by far my favorite.

If you’ve never seen the Salad fingers cartoons, it would be best to start from the beginning. Warning, they are extremely unnerving. The main character is a hunchbacked little green figure with grossly exaggerated fingers. Salad Fingers lives alone in some sort of tiny shack in a barren, post-apocalyptic landscape and speaks with a British accent. It oftentimes talks to inanimate objects. The content, while not graphic, is extremely unsettling. This is only heightened by the tense soundtrack created by musicians like Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin and even Brian Eno.

Why is the return of a series with only 9 total episodes such huge news to geeks like me? Well for one, because it is an indelible part of my internet experience. But it’s a big deal to a lot of people, I’m presuming. It was a huge pop culture phenomenon, even making an appearance in the San Francisco Chronicle’s 2005 Pop Culture Year in Review.

“Salad Fingers” The creepiest and best flash animation online is up to six episodes and still going strong. Not especially violent and about as far from sexy as one can imagine; nonetheless, not for the faint of heart

The first episode has nearly 10 million views on YouTube and the second nearly 8 million.

The eighth episode of Salad Fingers was released in September of 2007, and now almost four years later comes episode 9, Letter. Once again – Warning, this is some seriously odd stuff.
