Russell Crowe is among many people mourning the death of John Nash. Crowe played a character in the film A Beautiful Mind that was based on Nash.

John Forbes Nash, Jr. was a prominent mathematician, who suffered from schizophrenia later in his life. He was killed on Saturday in a car crash. He was 86. John Nash's wife Alicia, who was 82, died in the crash as well.

A Beautiful Mind won numerous Academy Awards back in 2002. In addition to Russell Crowe receiving a nomination for Best Actor for his portrayal of John Nash, the film won Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director (Ron Howard), Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actress (Jennifer Connelly, who played Alicia Nash).

Russell Crowe took to Twitter on Sunday morning to express his thoughts on the death of John Nash.

Alicia and John Nash were traveling in a taxi in New Jersey when their cab hit a guardrail, and the couple was ejected from the car. Officials do not believe they were wearing seat belts. The driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries, as did the operator of the other car.

In addition to Russell Crowe and the film world, the academic world is mourning the passing of John Nash, too.

If you've never seen Russell Crowe and John Nash in A Beautiful Mind, you are missing out on a stellar, beyond thought-provoking performance.
