  • Rosie O’Donnell filed for divorce from wife Michelle Rounds on Friday. Earlier in February she announced that she and Rounds had separated back in November, and that she was leaving her spot on The View to care for her family at home.

A rep for Rosie O’Donnell followed up that announcement with a written statement.

“I can confirm that Rosie and her wife Michelle split in November,” the statement read.

“Rosie has teens and an infant at home that need her attention,” her rep added. “This has been a very stressful situation. She is putting her personal health and family first.”

Rosie O’Donnell and Michelle Rounds started dating in 2011 and wed in a quiet ceremony in June of 2012. O’Donnell was already the mother of four children at the time. She and Michelle Rounds went on to adopt a daughter together. They will share custody of Dakota, who is now two years old.

Rosie O’Donnell filed divorce papers in Manhattan. The court documents state that her marriage to Michelle Rounds was “an irretrievably broken relationship.”

A prenuptial agreement was filed prior to the couple tying the knot.

In addition to her recent spot on The View, Rosie O’Donnell has a guest role ABC Family’s hit show The Fosters. She plays Rita Hendricks, a “tough yet compassionate foster care group home caregiver” in the series.

Hopefully divorce proceedings go along smoothly for Rosie O’Donnell and Michelle Rounds–most especially for the sake of all the children involved. It’s sad to see any marriage end. Children are often the unspoken casualties in any relationship’s demise.
