Ricki Lake and Christian Evans have reportedly decided to go their separate ways after just two years of marriage.

Although the abrupt split may come as a shock for fans, several media outlets have reported that they’ve been having marital problems for quite some time.

An insider close to the Emmy Award-winning television host recently shared details about the downward spiral of their marriage with Radar Online. The source revealed they actually made a gratuitous effort to repair the marriage, but to no avail.

“They really did try to make it work,” the insider said. “For the last couple of weeks, they attended several therapy sessions together.”

The insider went on to discuss the alleged text message Evans sent to his estranged wife on Sunday, Oct. 19.

“Yesterday they went to their therapist and following the session, Christian sent her a text message that read ‘I do not want you to be in any more heartache or pain that our marriage is over.’”

Apparently, the therapy sessions aren’t anything new, according to the source the couple has had therapists throughout their entire marriage. However, the most recent sessions have been quite daunting in wake of their split.

“They each had their own therapists and he would attend sessions with her and her children,” the insider said.

The news of their split comes just days after the 46-year-old actress kicked Evans out of their home. Although they’d been having issues for months, she reportedly reached her breaking point when her husband didn’t call her for her birthday.

“Ricki took issue with a sudden trip Christian took to Ibiza last month, alone,” an insider revealed to Radar Online. “And he didn’t call her on her birthday.”

The famed Mrs. Winterbourne actress began dating Evans back in 2009. They announced their engagement in August of 2011 and tied the knot on  April 8, 2012.
