“There is no viable path forward for me in this 2012 campaign, therefore I am suspending my campaign and endorsing Newt Gingrich.” – Rick Perry, Jan 19

Rick Perry had become a firebrand in U.S. politics in the past five months. He did not enter the GOP presidential primary race until August 13, the day after the Ames Straw Poll in Iowa. But, his very entrance knocked the Straw Poll winner, Michelle Bachmann, from her first place seat in national polls overnight. She later went on to finish last in the actual Iowa Caucus and left the primary race the following day.

Perry ran on a conservative platform and Evangelical Christian statements. One ad he released polarized responses to his campaign.

Since his announcement today, the Twitterverse has responded voluminously.
