Prince Harry Congratulates Lewis Hamilton On Second F1 Championship

  • Prince Harry was just one of the many people who were celebrating after Lewis Hamilton was able to win his second Formula One World Championship title. Prince Harry was in Abu Dhabi for the race, and he was the first man to congratulate Hamilton on the win. The prince was in the pits at the Yas Marina circuit alongside Mercedes executives as Hamilton crossed the finish line. Prince Harry immediately took to the radio to talk to the F1 racer. He said over the radio, “Lewis thank you very much for not making the British public sweat. You are an absolute legend. Well done mate.”

Hamilton’s win in Abu Dhabi is a relatively easier one compared to his 2008 championship victory in 2008, when he scraped into 5th position before taking the lead in the final corner. He is now only the fourth Briton in history to hold multiple championship titles, and the first since Sir Jackie Stewart. Hamilton’s girlfriend, pop star Nicole Scherzinger, was waiting for the racer as he stepped out of his Mercedes.

In his victory speech, Hamilton said, “I can’t explain how much this means. It means more than the first one, it feels like the first time, I’m blessed. This is the greatest day of my life. 2008 was a special time, but the feeling I have now is way past that, above and beyond.”

Hamilton defeated Mercedes teammate and rival Nico Rosberg after the German suffered from technical difficulties with his hybrid power system. “I’m very sad his car was not quick enough to fight in this race, but he was graceful to come up to me afterwards, very professional. And he said ‘Fantastic, you drove very well’,” Hamilton said.

Aside from Prince Harry, other notable British personalities congratulated Hamilton on the win. Prime Minister David Cameron tweeted, “Congratulations to @LewisHamilton on winning the #AbuDhabiGP and his second #F1 world title. A great day for British motorsport.” Deputy Prime Minister also sent out a tweet saying, “You’ve made Britain very proud”.
