Portal Theme Song Played With A Fiber Laser

  • This video of Jonathan Coulton’s “Still Alive” being played by a laser was uploaded by YouTube user chjade84 earlier this week. In case it’s hard to see, that pattern being carved into a stainless steel plate while the “music” plays is the Aperture Science logo.

“It took quite a while to get it this far. Laser markers weren’t really meant for making music and there are a few parts out of time but I’m sure GLaDOS would approve,” said chjade84.

Aperture Science and GLaDOS are the antagonists in Valve’s “Portal” video games and “Still Alive” is the theme song to the first “Portal.”

chjade84 updated his youtube post to say he might be able to make more plates and sell them:

“There has been a lot of interest in these stainless plates with the Aperture logo (thanks!). I’ve sent a few emails to Valve asking for their permission to make them for you – it is their logo after all. If you want to be kept in the loop send me a message and I will keep you informed (probably $20-$30 shipped — stainless ain’t cheap!). Thanks again!”

I’m sure Valve would allow it, as long as it’s for science.
