  • “There must be some misunderstanding
There must be some kind of mistake
I waited in the rain for hours
    And you were late

Now it’s not like me to say the right thing
But you could’ve called to let me know
I checked your number twice, don’t understand it
    So I went home”

    -“Misunderstanding”, by Genesis

Poor Phil Collins wrote that song back in 1980. It turns out he’s still getting stood up.

Back in January, Phil Collins told Rolling Stone that he was working on songs with Adele for her next album. He hadn’t been keeping up with the current music scene very well, but was keen to work with her.

“I’ve just started to work with Adele,” he said. “I wasn’t actually too aware…I live in a cave, but she’s achieved an incredible amount. I really love her voice. I love some of this stuff she’s done, too.”

The idea of Collins re-entering the music scene after a long time off by pairing with Adele got raves among fans.

But now Collins says that is not likely to happen, and for an odd reason.

“She got hold of me and asked if I would write with her. She gave me a piece of music to finish and at first I didn’t know if I’d failed the audition as I didn’t hear back from her,” he told Q magazine.

“She said, ‘No, no, I’m moving house and the baby’s taking up a lot of my time, I’m not actually doing anything at the moment.’ And now I’ve heard there’s a [new album] coming out. I’m not on it, I know that.”

“She’s a slippery little fish is Adele,” Collins added.

But the New York Times reports that XL, Adele’s record company, has stated in their annual financial reports that there is no Adele album about to drop.

“There will not be a further new release by Adele during 2014, the company reported, “and consequently there will be a fall in XL’s turnover and profits.”

Rapper Wiz Khalifa revealed back in May that a collaboration between him and Adele was not happening either.
