  • Former Florida Gators player Percy Harvin is no stranger to injuries. The receiver, who had quite a few injuries in college, is now waiting to heal up from a hip surgery he had at the beginning of August. While Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said the surgery went fine and another source said that Harvin’s recovery was going “extremely well,” it looks like Harvin’s return to the gridiron might be further off than originally expected.

During a press conference on Wednesday, Carroll reported that Harvin had been sent back to rehab. “He’s back in New York rehabbing and we’re making sure that we really do everything just right. He was very positive about how he’s coming back,” Carroll said. “We want to make sure we do a great job and support it in every way. We’ve made a couple of choices to send him back and he’s doing great. Don’t know what that means in terms of a timeline.”

Harvin had hoped to be back on the field around Week 7 (mid October), but since he hasn’t been cleared for practice yet and Carroll said he is back in rehab with no timeline for a return, that doesn’t seem likely.

Harvin was placed on the Players Unable to Perform (PUP) list back in August, which guaranteed that Harvin wouldn’t be able to start before Game 7 anyway. Players on the PUP list have to be ready to go by Week 11, and If Harvin completes rehab and is eventually cleared by the Seahawks to practice, the Seahawks will have three weeks to decide whether to keep him on the active roster.

The hip injury and surgery is a huge disappointment for Harvin, who had high hopes for contributing to the Seahawks in his first season with them after being traded. The Minnesota Vikings traded Harvin to the Seahawks back in March for some picks in upcoming NFL Drafts. The Seattle Seahawks traded “their 2013 first-round draft choice, one of their three seventh-round draft choices and a 2014 third-round draft choice to the Minnesota Vikings.”

The Seahawks are off to a strong start at 3-0 and first in the NFC Western Division, and if Harvin is able to get through rehab soon, there could be plenty of schedule left for him to have a chance to shine.
