  • Trader Joe’s has issued a recall for their Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butter, saying it is the likely source of a salmonella outbreak that has affected about 30 people in 18 different states.

“If you purchased this product, please do not eat it,” the company said in a statement. “We encourage you to return the product to any Trader Joe’s for a full refund or dispose of it.”

The Center For Disease Control is currently investigating the outbreak along with the FDA and has officially stated that the peanut butter was the source. Four people have been hospitalized with illnesses relating to the bacteria.

Those most at risk from salmonella are the very young, the elderly, and those with weak immune systems. It can hit within 72 hours of ingestion and causes diarrhea, stomach cramps, and nausea, among other things.
