  • What better time to unveil a new feature on your restaurant and bar payment app than in Austin, Texas during SXSW? With so many technology professionals eating and drinking in one place, it’s the perfect time to bring your technology to new faces. That is exactly what Tabbedout has done by testing PayPal as a new payment option for their mobile app in the Austin area. It’s a small change, that does make the app more accessible and convenient, but the timing is perfect.

It cannot be questioned that mobile payment technology is starting to make a big splash in the mobile app market. Heavy hitters like Google Wallet and Isis are trying to grab all the momentum they can to make utilization of this technology a common practice amongst cell phone users. Tabbedout is trying to get in on the action by specializing in payments at restaurants and bars.

Tabbedout, the mobile payment solution that enables customers to open, view and pay their bar or restaurant tab with their phone, now offers PayPal as a payment option within the app. Instead of settling their tab with a credit card, consumers can now pay using their PayPal account at select Tabbedout locations in Austin. Through Tabbedout, PayPal will be accepted at bars and restaurants for the first time in select U.S. locations, giving customers the seamless experience they’ve come to expect when paying with PayPal. Patrons can now enter their secure PayPal username and password to make payment right from their smartphones, and not have to worry about forgetting their credit card or handing it to strangers.

By offering Tabbedout, merchants can easily give their patrons more flexibility in the way they can pay. Tabbedout has built strong software integrations with key point-of-sale (POS) systems, giving it access to more than 70%+ of the bar and restaurant market. Because of these integrations, merchants can add PayPal as a payment option without needing to purchase additional hardware.

“PayPal is enthusiastic about giving our consumers the choice to make payments any time, anywhere and in almost any way they want,” said Scott Dunlap, vice president of emerging opportunities for PayPal. “Being offered within the Tabbedout mobile app is another way we’re delivering consumers a fast, secure way to pay without ever pulling out their wallets.”
