  • Paula Abdul is reportedly suing a tanning company after sustaining a burn on her thigh from a tanning bed. The former American Idol and X-Factor judge filed a personal injury lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday, alleging she suffered severe burns back in January of 2012.

Abdul claims in the lawsuit that she bought a SlimStar infrared body wrap treatment. She says it was applied “negligently, carelessly and recklessly” at the tanning parlor. The body wrap apparently caused “severe and painful burns all over her body, with an especially severe second—or third-degree burn on a portion of the plaintiff’s left thigh.”

Paula Abdul–once a singing star known for hit songs like Straight Up, has reportedly suffered “great mental, physical and nervous strain, pain and suffering, and loss of earnings potential” as a result of the burns sustained. She is seeking in excess of $25,000 in damages in the lawsuit.

What does Paula Abdul do when not advising or judging on shows like American Idol or The X Factor? Apparently she hangs out in tanning salons and spas. Hopefully her injuries don’t prevent her from dancing and choreographing. Unlike with her singing career, she really is very talented in the field of dance. She used to choreograph and teach dance to Janet Jackson.

A rep for The Hollywood Reporter contacted the defendant in Paula Abdul’s lawsuit, requesting a comment, but they failed to respond to the call. It will certainly be interesting to learn how this lawsuit proceeds.
